Neutral Colours Are Best

A neutral palette has become the backbone of most bathrooms. So unless you are a full on colour fiend or staunch maximalist, the chances are white, beige, brown or grey features in your bathroom. This hugely popular look has dominated interior design for quite some time and shows no signs of falling out of favour. But why do we love neutrals so much and why are they so popular?

This is simply because they’re elegant, easy to live with and provide a calm, ordered backdrop for our frequently hectic lives – plus, they’re super-easy to accessorise. However, the term neutral is misleading – these colours vary hugely from each other in terms of impact and mood. And fashions and trends constantly shift:  a decade or so ago magnolia was the neutral choice, while today grey is having a moment – and beige is still a key component.

Even eternally in-vogue is white, which can vary enormously depending on the shade you choose. This colour is also future proof; meaning your bathroom will be as ‘on-trend’ in five years’ time as it will look on the first day it has been installed. Rest assured that if you opt for a neutral bathroom you have made the best investment.

If your bathroom is on the small side, make it look infinitely bigger with neutral colours. By running tiles along the floor and up the walls – this will create a feeling of never ending space. Introduce accents of colour, pattern and texture with decor tiles and mosaics to add depth and creativity. Then comes the fun part where you can inject colour with vibrant towels, bath mats and accessories – these are the least expensive things to change.

Neutral is also a colour that’s perfect if you are renovating a bathroom in preparation for selling or renting your home because potential buyers and renters will appreciate the neutral canvas.
